The Dynamite Gang 367th Fighter Group

These concern the 367TH Fighter group which was known as the Dynamite Gang and flew from Stoney Cross Airfield during WW2.
Newsletter 19 is particularly interesting as it has more detail on MeeMee the name used for our tearoom. “Entering the service in February 1943, Pfc. D’Agostino has been pursuing his civilian occupation of cooking ever since. When asked if he’d take on this job at the pilot’s snack bar, he consented on the condition that it be named “Mee Mee’s Kitchen,” after his wife. The powers that be consented and so it has been ever since. Pfc. D’Agostino attended St. Augustine’s School in Ossining, and for seven years prior to his entry into the service was proprietor of Mee Mee’s Diner. His wife, Mee Mee, of 16 Croton Street, is now carrying on the management of the diner.”
According to AI “D’Agostino’s, historically known as “Mee Mee’s Diner” in Ossining, New York, was a popular local eatery during the 1940s. The establishment served as a beloved community staple for hearty American homestyle meals.
While Mee Mee’s Diner itself no longer operates, the local tradition continues at its modern successor, DD’s Diner (located at 191 N. Highland Ave”
It is interesting this newsletter arrived as we were deciding on a sign for our tearoom.
Perhaps we will call it a kitchen or a pilots snack bar!
