2020 New Forest National Park Volunteer Fair
FONFA was well represented at the annual New Forest Volunteer Fair at Lyndhurst Community Centre on Sunday January 26th, by Trustee Board Members (left to right) Edwin Levett, John Brooks, Lynn Corbin and Chair of Trustees, Dr Henry Goodall.
The Fair, which welcomed over 760 visitors during the day, is a valuable way to ‘spread the word’ about voluntary organisations and their activities, in the New Forest area, and to make new contacts. As in previous years, our stand was visited by the New Forest East MP, Dr Julian Lewis, who has always shown a keen interest in our activities and is an aviation author himself. We continue to be grateful for his active support.
Henry gave a fifteen-minute PowerPoint presentation about the opportunities for volunteering at our Heritage Centre at Bransgore and the New Forest Airfields Memorial at the former Holmsley WWII South airfield, which was well received. We hope that new volunteers will be forthcoming from the contacts made, for the new Open Day season, which starts on Sunday March 1st. The following day, Henry was in action again, speaking to members of the East Dorset National Trust Association at West Moors. An appreciative audience of over 100 heard about the wartime New Forest airfields and their vital importance, during the period
around D-Day, in June 1944, in supporting the invading ground troops in Normandy.
